Four Square Business Model - a big question mark?

Personally I am still a bit lost in terms of what they are trying to achieve –they seem to have bit of everything and that’s confusing to an average user.
At times this is a game (a sophisticated business or monopoly game which we all have grown up playing) and then at times its social networking finding friends based on proximity/location and finally it’s a targeted advertising/help as we go to places. UNCLEAR OFFER

The value is if I start linking this with my facebook/twitter friends and then I have the database of friends and you start to see the value.
There is a definite need to know the coordinates of a friend or business associate as we visit places but don’t we know that before hand and synchronize. Or do we have to rely on this application for a semi-chance/semi-forced meeting.

To me if I am not hooked to the application; their strategy of connecting with local business for revenue is still far fetched.
